Choosing the right sign
When deciding to purchase a sign, there are several factors to consider. What do you want the sign to say? Not just in words, but in terms of image? What location will the sign be in? Will that affect what size will be required? What will make it stand out? To help with some of these questions, we present our quick guide to getting what you want, even if you don’t yet know what you want…
Obtaining a Quote
The more information you can give us the easier and more accurate a quote we can provide.
Essential information is the size of the sign you require and the number of colours you wish to use on the sign. Useful additional information would include the points below.
Purpose
What is the purpose for the sign? Is it to attract customers into a shop? Is it to act as an information sign? Is it simply intended to be innocuous unless you’re looking for it? This main consideration is perhaps the most important, as it will influence all the other choices such as style, size and colour directly.
Colours
Colour is a valuable tool in helping put across your sign message. Carefully consider what colours go with your sign, and also how many colours you need. Too many can look ‘busy’ and make the message more difficult to understand, too few can look ‘boring’. Think of contrast. Mixing your colours has an effect. Motorway warning signs are usually Black on Yellow, as this gives a high contrast and makes the wording stand out. Yellow on Red, however, almost blends in and becomes ‘smooth’ looking.
Location
Where is your sign going? This will affect both the potential material choice and size of your sign. And also consider durability. The British weather is especially tough on exterior signs, so a banner for temporary indoor use saying ‘happy birthday’ will be considerably different from an outdoor banner at a supermarket, for example.
